If your wristwatch is a GPS running watch, that technology has been compacted and added to your chronograph.
As you run, your GPS runner watch gathers information about your run, stores it, and with command, retrieves the data for your use. The route you traveled, the pace that you ran it and the length you ran is all integrated.

Two decades ago, the Global Positioning System (GPS) was born. In order for the United States’ military units to know where they are exactly on land and sea, they needed to develop a system to help them. So multiple satellites were launched into the Earth’s atmosphere into geosynchronous orbit.
The way GPS works is simple. The GPS units receive a signalfrom the satellites in orbit. The signal is analyzed by the satellite and ground based equipment and the exact location of the GPS unit is then revealed.

We have to thank the late and great Pres. Ronald Reagan for allowing those of us in the United States the chance to get our hands on what was previously reserved for military use only ” global positioning systems. Reagan believed that it was safe for this sometimes sensitive technology to be released for public use and this action transformed our way of life. These days we use these systems in our personal and commercial lives and much of what we rely on, in turn relies upon this technology in one shape or form.

Over twenty years ago, the United States developed a system of satellites circling the globe in order to help its military navigate the globe with accuracy. With multiple satellites in geo-synchronous orbit, units on land and sea can quickly get an accurate location and also a glimpse at the surrounding terrain.
GPS can establish your location by sending a signal from the satellite and then when it is received the signal is relayed back to the satellite. The position of the GPS receiver is then established and recorded.
